Ray Kring was inducted into the Pacific Athletics Hall of Fame in 1988 as a former pole vaulter for the Pacific men's track and field team in the 1940s. 

Kring won a number of championships in the days before pole vaulters catapulted over crossbars for new records with hte aid of a limber pole, posting a mark of 14' 2 7/8", good for ninth-best across the world in 1953. 

At Pacific, Kring was undefeated through four years of collegiate dual meet. He competed in five national junior AAU meets and was named to four All World Track squads. A three-year team captain in Stockton, Kring set the school record at 14 feet in 1947. 

Kring went on to coach cross country and track at the prep level, leading Placerville and Pittsburg to a combined 16 league championships and numerous section titles.
