Mission Statement

The mission of the University of the Pacific Sports Medicine is to serve the highest quality healthcare available to our student-athletes in a professional and compassionate manner that encourages lifelong health and wellness. This comprehensive care includes injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic-related injuries. In conjunction with our sports medicine team, we also assist our student-athletes in general medical healthcare and nutritional and psychological concerns.

We believe the safety and health of our Pacific student-athletes are paramount above all else. Therefore, we are dedicated to maintaining and delivering current, evidence-based care with continual education and interprofessional collaboration.

The Sports Medicine values a family environment where all student-athletes are treated with compassion and respect. In addition, we acknowledge that each student-athlete is unique and should be provided holistic care that is tailored to their individual needs and goals. Therefore, we are committed to delivering innovative and multi-disciplinary efforts for the mental, physical, and emotional well-being of our student-athletes at Pacific.

The University of the Pacific Sports Medicine staff are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We believe that understanding and integrating these values are essential to providing high-quality care to those we serve. We acknowledge that each student-athlete is wholly defined by their race, culture, gender, sexuality, religious beliefs, and socioeconomic status and, therefore, should be provided holistic care that is tailored to them as unique individuals. In addition, the Sports Medicine staff strives to maintain an inclusive culture and family environment where all student-athletes are treated with compassion and respect.

Who are athletic trainers?

Athletic trainers (ATs) are highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals who render service or treatment, under the direction of or in collaboration with a physician, in accordance with their education, training, and the state's statutes, rules, and regulations. As a part of the health care team, services provided by athletic trainers include primary care, injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education, emergent care, examination, and clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. The NATA Code of Ethics states the principles of ethical behavior that should be followed in the practice of athletic training.

Athletic training is recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA), Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as an allied health care profession.
