Carl Kammerer attended College of the Pacific from 1957 to 1961 as a three-time outstanding defensive player, two-time outstanding offensive lineman and the outstanding senior athlete in 1960. 

He was selected to the Pete Rozell All-American First Team as well as the East-West Shrine Game, the Senior Bowl and the Chicago All Star Game. Kammerer was selected as co-captain for each game. 

Kammerer was drafted in 1960 in the second round by the San Francisco 49ers, but stuck out his final year at Pacific before playing two years with the 49ers and being traded to the Washington Redskins. He led the Redskins with 16.5 sacks in 1966 and was the team's Defensive Player of the Year in 1966 and 1968.
