Duane Putnam enjoyed a four-year career on the gridiron with Pacific from 1948 to 1951 under head coaches Larry Siemering and Ernie Jorge.

Putnam earned All-Coast honors, All-American honors and was team captain for Pacific's Sun Bowl berth on New Year's Day of 1952 against Texas Tech.

Putnam was drafted in the sixth round by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1952, but began his nine-year professional career with the Los Angeles Rams.

A five-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro guard, Putnam played his 121-game professional career with the Rams, Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys. Putnam was a member of the Cowboys' inaugural 1960 squad, guarding for former All-American Pacific quarterback Eddie LeBaron.
