After turning down scholarships to Notre Dame and Stanford, Bryan Pini became the first major recruit to attend Pacific. Pini helped build the program into a national powerhouse over the years while recruiting subsequent top juniors along the way.

The first Tiger golfer to earn Pacific Athletics Hall of Fame induction honors, Pini competed in the program's first NCAA Championship in 1980 and was named all-conference in 1978, 1979 and 1980. He competed in the East-West matches that same year and was named honorable mention All American.

He won back-to-back Northern California Amateur Championships in 1977 and 1978, with his 10 and 8 victory in 1978 dubbed a "perfect round of golf" by NCGA officials.
