Under head coach and Pacific Hall of Famer Stan McWilliams, the 1948 College of Pacific Baseball Team was crowned CCAA champions with wins over San Diego State, San Jose State, Fresno State, UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly with a 16-7 overall record and an 11-3 mark in conference play.Â
McWilliams went 6-0 on the mound that year as teh league's top pitcher with 27 strikeouts, as teammate Lou Bronzan followed as the league's second-best pitcher with a 3-0 record and 23 strikeouts.Â
Offensively, Pacific boasted three of the top 15 hitters in the CCAA in Laurie Monroe (.327), Don Brown (.314) and Sonnie Adkins (.313). The 1948 Tigers were led by team captain Jim Torvick, who led the squad with a .386 batting average.Â
