In just its fifth year of existence, Pacific's 1980 women's volleyball team set the program record with 48 wins as part of a 48-8 season that culminated with a hard-fought loss to USC in the NCAA final, their second of ten consecutive national top-five finishes.

Led by graduating All-Americans Nancy Lancaster, Broderick Award winner Patty Berg and Kim McDonald, Pacific's 1980 squad ranked sixth in program history with a .857 winning percentage after winning 15 of their first 16 matches with five of those wins being sweeps.

Standing room only crowds were commonplace at the Spanos Center in the fall of 1980, as the Tigers upended USC in the Wendy’s Classic and went unbeaten in the NorCal Athletic Conference with a 12-0 mark.
