John Thomas played football for the Tigers in the 1950s under Jack "Moose" Myers in the defensive secondary.
Thomas' secondary gave up just five passing touchdowns in 1957, tied for the lowest of the decade.
He went on to play nine years with the San Francisco 49ers, being named a First Team All-Pro guard alongside former Tiger great Dick Bass.
Thomas also started that year's Pro Bowl at left guard with him and Bass both on the roster.
