Daren McGavren brought his athletic talents to UOP in 1941 as a decathlete, also providing the Tigers with an emotional spark as a varsity yell leader.

McGavren lettered in track and field in 1941 and 1942, and in 1942 was accepted into Sigma Delta Psi, the national honorary collegiate athletic fraternity.

In 1943, he entered the United States Army Air Corps as a physical training instructor and returned to Pacific in 1948, where he lettered in both track and field and diving for the 1947 and 1948 seasons.

After graduating from Pacific in 1948 with a degree in Communications and a concentration in radio speech, McGavren competed for the Corona Del Mar track club in the high hurdles, low hurdles and pole vault for several years.
