As a guard for Pacific's football team in 1936, DougĀ Silva was selected to the All-Far Western Conference Second Team after leading the Tigers to a Far Western Conference record of 4-0 and a FWC championship.
Silva highlighted his 1936 campaign with a fumble recovering in the endĀ zone in a 20-0 win over Chico State.

By the start of the 1937 season, Silva had elevated his game to an elite level, providing leadership as a team captain.

1938 was a milestone year for Silva, graduatingĀ from Pacific with a degree in Economics and marrying his high-school sweetheart, Marcella.Ā

Over the next half-century, Silva worked as an auditor for LawrenceĀ System, bought a nursing home in Berkeley which he later sold, and became harbor master at the OaklandĀ Yacht Club. Upon retiring from his position at the OaklandĀ Yacht Club in 1983, the Silvas moved to Petaluma, and in 1989,Ā returned to Stockton after 51 years.
