Led by team captain Roger Mercier, All-American Mark Gardner and head coach Darrell Zimmerman, the 1968 Pacific Men's Track team went a perfect 12-0 and was dominant in dual and triangular meets.

Gardner was nearly untouchable in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. He claimed first-place finishes in the event at five relays that season, including the Fresno Relays, the Westmont Relays, the Claremont Relays, the Davis Relays and finished with the fastest freshman time in the nation during the 1968 San Jose Invitational. Gardner posted a 9:12.2 in the steeplechase, the fastest in the nation by a freshman.

Pacific's 1968 squad also received major contributions from Andy Barnett, who posted javelin records at the Claremont Relays and Davis Relays, and Alan Kirschenmann, who posted first-place finishes in the 4x8 relay at the Davis Relays, Claremont Relays and West Coast Relays.

The Tigers' 4x440 relay team of Jim Stanton, Ross Cardinalli, Larry Aldrich and Gary Lewis also set three school records that season.

In field events, Steve Meier set the school shot put record at 52" 8 1/2' and Alrich earned All-American status in the 120 High and 440 Intermediate Hurdles.
