Jack Layland entered the Pacific Athletics Hall of Fame in 1999 as a fullback on the Tigers' 1966 and 1967 football teams that combined to gain 3,170 rushing yards. Layland ranks 10th on the school's rushing list, accounting for 1,751 of those yards despite playing just two years in Stockton.

Layland led the Tigers in rushing throughout both of his seasons, averaging almost six yards per carry as team MVP in 1966 and accounting for 66 percent of Pacific's running game in 1967.

After finishing the 1967 season 15th in the nation in rushing, Jack was honored with the Robert E. Burns President's Award for excellence of performance in addition to earning All-America Honorable Mention and All-Coast honors. Layland graduated from Pacific with a degree in Physical Education and a minor in Speech.

Layland signed with the Green Bay Packers in 1968, but was unable to play due to a leg injury. Jack signed with the Packers again in 1969, but was sidelined once more when it was discovered he had developed heart disease. He returned to Pacific as a graduate assistant coach and later went on to become a member of the California Pro Rodeo Association during the 1970s.

After teaching and coaching football at Tokay High School for over 10 years, Layland has settled into his career as a contractor and developer. Jack and his wife, Bucky Reynolds Layland - head coach of the 1983 Tiger softball team that was inducted into the Pacific Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997 - live in Clements, California, with their three children: Drew, Emily and Callie.
