The Tigers offense was on display against Stanford starting pitcher Madi Schreyer (8-0) tallying nine runs on nine hits, including a four run outburst in the final frame.
The Tigers got on the board first, scoring on a wild pitch in the top of the first inning. Senior Megan Foglesong was able to coax a two out walk and promptly got into scoring posistion after stealing second base. Senior Taylor Petty singled sharply through the right side to advance Foglesong to third. Stanford Starter Madi Schreyer then threw a wild pitch to freshman Cassidy Gustafson, and Foglesong slid ahead of the tag by Schreyer covering home plate for a 1-0 Pacific lead.
Stanford quickly answered back, scoring in the bottom of the frame. The Cardinal started the inning with infield singles by Hannah Winter and Leah White before Kyleigh Sorenson reached on a four pitch walk by Tigers starting pitcher junior Dani Bonnet. Bonnet rebounded quickly however, striking out Stanford cleanup hitter Bessie Noll looking. She induced a ground ball to the next hitter Cassandra Roulund, but Winter just beat freshman Bailey O'Mara's throw home to even the score at 1-1. Bonnet was able to limit the damage as Kayla Bonstrom grounded into a double play to end the threat.
Stanford tacked on a pair in the second, as Erin Ashby lead off the inning with a single that center fielder Foglesong couldn't quite get to with a diving attempt. Bonnet was able to get Jessica Plaza to strikeout swinging for the first out of the inning, but Tylyn Wells followed with a single of her own. The next batter Winter was caught looking by Bonnet for the second out, but White stepped up with a single in the gap, her second of the game, to score both Plaza and Wells and give the Cardinal a 3-1 advantage.
Stanford's Ashby led off the bottom of the fourth with a first-pitch solo home run over the left center field wall to extend the Cardinal lead to 4-1. After Bonnet set down Lauren Bertoy with a swinging strikeout, Wells reached on an infield single after a miscommunication between Bonnet and O'Mara left first base uncovered. Wells advanced into scoring position with a stolen base before Winter beat out a throw by Gustafson to put runners on the corners with an infield single. A steal of second base by Winter put two runners in scoring position. White would add a run on an RBI groundout and after a Sorensen walk, Noll would make it 6-1 with a single.
Pacific mounted a rally of its own in the top of the fifth, putting four runs on the board to cut the Stanford lead to 6-5. O'Mara led off the inning with an infield single, sophomore Melanie Habib reached on a fielding error by Stanford second baseman Bertoy and Megan Foglesong drew a one-out walk, her third of the game, to load the bases for Petty. Petty connected with a sharp infield single to bring in pinch runner freshman Melina Huey for the Tigers' second run of the contest. Junior Alex Steinmehl also rocketed a sharp ground ball to third that Winter couldn't corral, picking up an RBI in the process and reducing the Stanford lead to 6-3. Sophomore Nicole Zapotoczny kept the line moving with a two-RBI single to left field, dropping a hit down the line just in front of the left fielder White to make it a one run ballgame at 6-5 and bring the visiting dugout to life.
Stanford would add two more in the bottom of the fifth on a Hannah Winter triple and three more in the sixth on an Ashby double and a Bertoy infield single to extend the Stanford lead to make it 11-5 going into the seventh.
Petty left off the inning with her third hit of the game, a single down the left field line. Gustafson followed, reaching on a comebacker to Schreyer that the Stanford pitcher threw into center field. After both runners moved up on a passed ball, Steinmehl singled up the middle, scoring Petty to make it 11-6. The next hitter Zapotoczny reached on a fielder's choice that forced Gustafson out at home for the first out of the inning but Sophomore Taylor Brink hit a line drive double down the left field line to score Steinmehl and advanced Zapotoczny to third for the seventh Pacific run of the ballgame.
O'Mara grounded out for the second out of the inning, but Sara Anderson singled, scoring Zapotoczny to extend the rally and make the score 11-8. Habib appeared to ground out to end the Pacific threat and the ballgame, but Stanford first baseman Kayla Bonstrom mishandled the throw, and Brink scored from third to cut the lead to 11-9. Foglesong stepped up with the tying run at first, but grounded out on a 3-1 count to end the inning and the game.
Every starter reached base for the Tigers, led by Petty's three hits. Steinmehl and Zapotoczny each added a pair of RBI.
