Tigers Drop Game Two to San Diego

STOCKTON, Calif. – A San Diego home run in the fifth inning and three fielding errors proved too much for Pacific softball to overcome on Saturday afternoon in a 5-3 defeat, setting up a rubber match at Bill Simoni Field on Sunday.

The normally sure-handed Tigers (17-34, 5-12 WCC) committed more than two errors in a game for just the third time this season, which allowed two runs to Toreros (18-29, 4-10 WCC) to come around to score. This gave junior starting pitcher Justice Alcaraz the loss on the afternoon, dropping to 4-11 and a final line of 4.1 innings pitched, five hits allowed, five runs (three earned), no walks and a strikeout.

After Alcaraz's exit in the fifth inning, sophomore Alexa Lewis stepped into the circle and commanded the remainder of the game without incident, mostly by her own hand. Of the eight outs recorded by the sophomore, five came via a strikeout and the remaining three outs did not leave the infield. After today's appearance, Lewis claimed the honor for the most strikeouts by a Tiger pitcher this decade at 74 and has the third most in a single season since 2019.

On the offensive side of the diamond, Pacific's day was highlighted by sophomore Peyton Clifford's first career triple, a hit that brought in her 17th RBI of the season and one of her two hits. The only other Tiger with a multi-hit bid was senior Amanda Bricker, who coincidentally tallied the team's other extra-base hit when she doubled to right center in the sixth inning.

Redshirt senior Olivia Silvestre's lone hit of the day brought in a run while sophomore Alyssa Garcia was able to bring in her second RBI of the season as she extended her hitting streak to three games after singling in the fourth inning.

Pacific can still claim the series with a win tomorrow in the season finale. First pitch is at noon on ESPN+ and fans are encouraged to stick around Bill Simoni Field post game to help the program celebrate Olivia Silvestre, Allie Capello, Amanda Bricker, Jordan Hayes, Asia Lee and Rory Schuck at their senior day ceremony.
