2017 (Senior):
Appeared in all but four games her final year in the Orange and Black, hitting a career-high .296 with 35 RBIs and 25 runs scored and nine home runs, which paced the team. In the circle she started in four games and posted 23 strikeouts in just over 27 innings. Opened the year hitting safely in seven of the first eight contests and had three home runs over this stretch. Knocked in all three runs in the 3-0 win over Cal State Fullerton (Feb. 12) on a three-run home run. Had another three RBI performance in the 7-3 victory against Portland State (Mar. 5) as the senior went 2-for-2 at the plate with a three-run bomb. Whacked a grand slam against Missouri-Kansas City (Mar. 24) which helped her earn WCC Player of the Week. As a pitcher she threw her first complete game of the year in the 2-1 win against North Dakota State (Feb. 11) and followed up with a six strikeout performance in four innings the next day against Cal State Fullerton (Feb. 12). Leaves Pacific with the sixth-highest slugging percentage all-time at a .491 clip, fourth all-time with 24 home runs, and seventh in RBIs with 110.
2016 (Junior):
Gustafson picked up where she left off after the 2015 season, hitting a career-best .273 in 139 at bats and 19 RBIs. At home against Binghamton (Feb. 19), Gustafson went 2-for-4 at the plate including a homerun with three RBIs and two runs scored. In the two-game series against Bakersfield, she went a combined 4-for-6 with five runs scored, two homeruns and five RBI''s. Overall Gustafson registered eleven multi-hit games and ended the seaon on a seven-game hit streak. In the circle, against Connecticut (Feb 12) the junior threw seven scoreless innnings and struck out a season-high four to give the Tigers their first win of 2016 and give Gustafson WCC Pitcher of the Week honors. Gustafson earned her third win of the year against Bakersfield (Feb 27) by pitching five scoreless innings and only conceding three hits and one walk. Gustafson also earned WCC Pitcher of the Week plaudits on Feb. 14th for her stellar work in the circle.
2015 (Sophomore):
Gustafson had a breakout sophomore campaign, hitting .266 with 41 hits and 30 RBI while also making 15 apperances from the circle, including 13 starts. Gustafson compiled a 4.04 ERA, striking out 28 batters. At the end of the season, she was named to the All-WCC Second Team. As the starting pitcher against eventual WCWS participant Auburn, Gustafson racked up a career-high eight strikeouts on March 5th. The next day, Gustafson hurled 3.1 innings and hit a home run in a win over No. 9 Baylor. Turning up the intensity from the plate in crucial games, Gustafson hit .340 in conference, including four doubles and two homers, joining the barrage as the Tigers clubbed a program-best five homers at BYU on April 10th. Gustafson''s multi-hit performances helped Pacific to wins over Santa Clara and Saint Mary''s down the stretch, including a three-RBI outburst in the season finale against the Gaels. Overall, Gustafson finished with seven multi-hit games and seven multi-RBI contests at the plate.
2014 (Freshman):
Gustafson established herself as a two-way force in the Pacific lineup in her first season as a Tiger. She recorded 32 hits, nine for extra bases, in 119 at-bats while splitting time between third base and the pitching circle. Cassidy''s 26 RBI were second on the team to Taylor Petty''s 30 and led all returners. Her four home runs were tops on the squad. She made an immediate impact with a grand slam in her second career contest against Cal Poly on Feb 14. On April 12 against Loyola Marymount, Gustafson started at third base, recording three hits and an RBI before shifting to the circle to shut down the Lions with four innings of hitless relief in a game Pacific would win 8-7 in extras. Overall from the circle, Cassidy fired 26 innings including four starts and two complete games. In conference games, she recorded a 2.10 ERA in 6.2 frames of relief work.
High School:
Joining the Tigers as a pitcher/utility player, Gustafson came to Pacific after prepping at Trabuco Hills High School. Gustafson was named to three straight All-South Coast League First Teams in addition to a First Team All-County selection her senior season in 2013. As a junior, Gustafson led her Mustangs in hitting as she posted a .425 batting average after tallying 34 hits in 80 at bats. Additionally, Gustafson added 13 extra-base hits with six home runs, six doubles and one triple. She posted a team-best 30 RBI, posting nearly half of her team''s RBI total in 2012. In the circle, Gustafson threw 126 innings and posted 90 strikeouts while picking up eight wins and a 2.06 ERA.
Personal:
Cassidy is the daughter of Karyn and Chris Gustafson. When she is not playing softball, Cassidy enjoys painting, photography and baking. In her fourth year at Pacific, Cassidy is a health, exercise and sport sciences major.
