Box Score 2 Fresno, Calif. - In its first game of the second day at the Fresno State Classic, the Pacific was unable to overcome a seven-run third inning for Colorado State, falling 10-2. Pacific drops to 8-12 with the loss while Colorado State picks up the victory to improve to 12-5 on the year. Tori Shepard (3-4) took the complete game loss while Larisa Petakoff was victorious to improve to 4-3 on the season.
Colorado State got on the scoreboard first, fueled by a Chelsea O'Connor grand slam in the top of the third inning. Shepard started the inning with a strikeout of Alysa Greckel, but allowed a walk to the ninth hitter, Kendal Buttefield. Hayley Hutton followed with a double into the left center field gap, advancing both runners into scoring position. Shae Rodriguez walked to load the bases full of Rams, setting up an RBI situation for Chelsea O'Connor. The Rams' leader in home runs added to her total with a grand slam to center field, plating four for Colorado State.
Shepard issued a walk to Danielle Wikre, who scored on a double to center field by Jaelyn Manzanares to give the Rams a 5-0 advantage. The next hitter Chelsea Biglow walked to put two runners on for the Rams and Greckel, up for the second time in the inning, tripled after senior Taylor Petty lost the fly ball while battling the sun in right field. Biglow was credited with two RBI to extend the lead to 7-0 for Colorado State.
In the bottom of the fourth, Pacific would get a run back as freshman Bailey O'Mara doubled down the right field line to begin the inning. With one out, Senior Taylor Petty singled to center field, advancing O'Mara to third. Junior Alex Steinmehl then delivered a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring O'Mara and cutting the defecit to 7-1.
Colorado State would add a run in the fifth as Danielle Wikre tripled into the left center gap and Manzanares singled to right field, scoring Wikre to extend the margin to 8-1. The Tigers would again cut the lead to 8-2 in the bottom of the frame, as the Tigers loaded the bases on back-to-back walks to sophomore Taylor Brink and junior Kamalei Pitoy. Senior Gabby Goyette delivered an infield single to load the bases and sophomore Melanie Habib came through with a sacrifice fly, scoring Brink to make it 8-2.
Colorado State would add to the lead in the top of the seventh as back-to-back walks and errors by Shepard and Habib turned into to two runs.
Goyette had three hits to lead the the Tiger attack. Pacific will be back in action at approximately 3:45 pm against New Mexico State.
