No. 66 Men's Tennis Wins Pair Over GW, Sac St

Stockton, Calif. - The No. 66 Pacific men's tennis team swept a pair of matches at Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center Saturday with a 4-2 win over George Washington and a 4-1 win over Sacramento State.

Against GW, No. 119 Sem Verbeek downed Julius Tverijonas at first singles, 6-4, 6-3. Daniel Alameh posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Chris Fletcher at second singles.

At third singles, Jose Chamba fell to Danil Zelenkov, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4, while Chris Reynolds topped Miguel Diaz at fourth singles, 6-3, 7-5.

With Pacific holding a 3-2 lead, Alex Giannini finished off Christos Hadjigeorgiou, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 to clinch the match.

Kumara Pardha Adavelly went unfinished at sixth singles against Cahit Kapukiran.

The Tigers won the doubles point as Verbeek & Chamba rolled over Fletcher & Hadjigeorgiou, 6-1, while Giannini & Diaz dispatched Reynolds & Kapukiran, 7-5.

Adavelly & Daniel Alameh went unfinished against Tverijonas & Fernando Sala.

George Washington falls to 5-7 on the year.

The Tigers turned around and faced Sacramento State in the afternoon session and took the doubles point as Alameh & Giannini topped Donald Hall and Dom Miller, 6-1 at second doubles and Verbeek and Lance Ngo took a 6-3 win over Uli Vollath, and Christopher Clayton.

In singles, Alameh downed Kasparas Zemaitelis, 6-3, 6-2 at second singles. Diaz topped Joaquin Marquez, 6-4, 6-1, in third singles. After Clayton edged Adavelly, 6-4, 6-1, in fifth singles, Giannini wrapped the match with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Dom Miller.

The Tigers improved to 10-7 on the year, picking up their first wins at the new Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.

"I thought today was a great test for the guys, especially playing a doubleheader on a hot day," head coach Ryan Redondo said. "It was great to get our first wins at the new Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center. Today was a battle. George Washington has traditionally been a very tough team and they really show that today and pushed us in the first match. I was really proud of the way the guys for stepping up. And then keeping it going with a short turnaround and taking care of business  against Sacramento State. We still have a lot to improve, and we're really excited for Wednesday and taking on Stanford at home."
