Biography

2016-17 (Senior):
In his fourth year as a Tiger, Miguel posted a singles record of 13-8 overall and 4-2 in the WCC with 10 of his wins being at the No. 1 singles spot.  Miguel had impressive wins throughout the season along with the upset against #124 Mike Pervolarakis from Portland defeating the WCC Player of the Year in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2 to hand Pervolarakis his second loss of the season.  Diaz clinched multiple wins for the Tigers including Pacific’s first-ever win over Fresno State and the victory over Gonzaga that allowed the Black and Orange to continue their WCC win streak.  The senior also won WCC Singles Player of the Week three times this season including back-to-back honors in March and another in April and was awarded First Team All-WCC honors. In doubles, Miguel went 7-8 overall and 4-2 in the WCC teaming up with Tadiwa Chinamo, Ross Watson, Lance Ngo, Nathan Hampton, and Alex Giannini.  Miguel and Alex ended the season on a three match win streak defeating opponents from San Diego, #43 Portland, and Gonzaga.  The duo won All-WCC Doubles Honorable Mention honors.    

2015-16 (Junior):
Won 12 singles matches and nine doubles matches on the year. His 12-12 singles mark included a 5-4 record in WCC matches. Turned in five wins each at third singles and fourth singles, while adding two victories at second singles. Posted five singles wins in matches against ranked teams. Won three doubles matches in WCC play, while going 3-3 at first doubles and 5-1 at third doubles. Posted a 5-0 doubles mark with Bernardo Oliveira, 2-1 with Sem Verbeek and 1-1 with Alex Giannini. West Coast Conference All-Academic Honorable Mention selection.

2014-15 (Sophomore):
Miguel Diaz was All-WCC First Tem Singles and earned Doubles Honorable Mention with partner Jose Chamba.  Diaz finished the season 19-15 in singles play and with 15 wins in doubles play. Diaz defeated nationally ranked No. 58 Uros Petronijevic from San Diego.

2013-14 (Freshman):
Miguel was the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year, finishing with a record of 20-11 in singles action. Diaz also earned All-WCC Honorable Mention honors. He began the year playing at the No. 4 position, but finished at No. 3. He was 14-13 in doubles competition, playing at No. 3 doubles and mostly with Alex Hamilton. 

High School:
Miguel attended Castro Valley High School, graduating in 2013. He had a 25-1 mark as a senior. Playing for coach Jerry Jacob, he helped the Trojans to Hayward Area Athletic League titles from 2010-12 and an East Bay Athletic League title in 2013. He was HAAL singles champion in 2011, EBAL champion in 2013 and a North Coast Section finalist last year. Excelling in the classroom as well, Miguel was a North Coast Section Scholar Athlete in each of his seasons. 

Personal:
Miguel is the son of Cesar and Maria Diaz. He is currently a Sports Pedagogy major at Pacific. In his free time, he enjoys watching Netflix, playing ping pong, hiking and dancing.
