Pacific Drops Thriller Match with Gonzaga

SPOKANE, Wash. – Sunday morning's match against Gonzaga came down to the final point, in the final set, on the final court but the Tigers were unable to clinch it and conceded the 4-3 decision to the Bulldogs.

Pacific's (7-15, 1-5 WCC) efforts on that decisive court nearly completed the comeback bid as a close loss on doubles court one put the team behind early. Despite the team loss in the doubles, redshirt senior Terence Das and sophomore Niv Zuckerman returned to the win column with a 6-4 triumph on court three. As a pair they're 3-2 this season.

Das then went on to singles court three, where he took down his opponent in straight sets and registered his second win of the conference season. The redshirt senior was joined by sophomore Jonty Giesen on court one to take down a Bulldog (7-10, 1-4 WCC) in straight sets – his first win during the WCC slate. Giesen's showing was his most dominant of the season, never allowing his opponent more than two games in either set.

The third Tigers point of the morning was scored by freshman Reuben De Klerk on court five, who triumphed in three sets. De Klerk rebounded from a first set loss to cruise to the win, taking sets two and three in convincing fashion (6-1 and 6-3). No stranger to the art of the comeback, four of the freshman's five singles wins this season have come in a three-set match in which he lost the first set.

That left the match down to court two, which fell in a tiebreaker in that third set to put the match in Gonzaga's favor.

With one match remaining in the regular season, Pacific travels to Moraga to face Saint Mary's – a team in which they have defeated twice in a row.
