Davis, Calif. - The No. 7 Pacific men's water polo team moved to 2-0 at the Aggie Shootout with a 16-6 win over No. 18 Navy.
Pacific received hat-tricks from Krisztian Laczkovics, Tim Reeves and J.T. Sarmento. Reeves set a career-high with his three goals, while Sarmento tied his career-best, equalling the three he tallied against MIT last year.
Sean Grady added two goals while Casey Fleming, Matt McKaig, Ikko Saito, Ben Stevenson and Simon Vogel also tallied.
After Sean Grady opened the scoring, Air Force's Will Weggeland tied the game, Ben Stevenson put Pacific in front, and Tim Reeves finished inside to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead.
Thomas Patterson converted a penalty shot to narrow the gap to 3-2 before Pacific added a goal to take a 4-2 lead at the end of the quarter.
Grady converted a 6-on-5 for Pacific on the first possession of the second quarter. Simon Vogel added a market as the Tigers stretched the lead to 6-2. On the counter-attack, Ikko Saito pushed the lead to five and Casey Fleming added a counter-attack goal of his own for an 8-2 advantage.
Laczkovics tallied three-straight goals and J.T. Sarmento finished a 6-on-5 opportunity as the Tigers led 12-2 at halftime as Pacific outscored the Midshipmen 8-0 in the second quarter.
In the second half, Matt McKaig opened the scoring for Pacific, before Robert Sutherland finished for Navy. Sarmento converted for his second goal of the game, but the Tigers allowed a 6-on-5 and Jack Finch finished for the Midshipmen.
Reeves answered a David Huber goal as Pacific maintained a 10-goal lead. After a Navy goal by Patrick Geer, Sarmento completed the hat-trick in the waning seconds for the Tigers.
Brady Moore played the first half in goal, making eight saves, while Chris Hughes entered at halftime and posted three saves, including a 6-on-5 stop.
Caleb Lintz started in goal for Navy and posted three saves, while Tyler Barker added three in the second half.
The Tigers improve to 8-3 on the season, while Navy falls to 9-5. Pacific will wrap their Aggie Shootout appearance against Cal Lutheran at 4:30 p.m.
