Six Tigers Earn All-WCC Honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Six Tigers have earned All-West Coast Conference post season honors, the conference announced this morning. Hailey Reed was named Co-Freshman of the Year in addition to being named to the All-WCC First Team, and joining Reed on the First Team ballot was junior Sydney Lahners. Additionally, Cassidy Gustafson, Haylee Moran-Rowen and Marissa Young were named to the All-WCC Second Team while freshman Samantha Owen earns Honorable Mention honors.  

Reed took the league by storm in her first season at Pacific, ranking tied-for-third in the WCC with a .432 batting average in conference play. Her .333 overall season batting average led the team, and her 44 hits on the year were the second most on the Orange and Black. The Topeka, Kan. native ranked third overall in the conference with an ERA of 2.11, which also paced the team and was the lowest ERA by a Tiger since 2004. Reed becomes Pacific's first Freshman of the Year honoree and the first freshman to be named to the All-WCC First Team in program history.  

Lahners earns All-WCC First Team recognition after being named to the conference's Second Team following last season. The junior led the Tigers in hits with 48, RBIs with 37, and was second on the team with a .322 batting average and in home runs with seven; all of which were also career-highs for Lahners. She also led the team with 14 multi-hit games to go with ten multiple RBI games. In WCC play, the Laguna Hills, Calif. native batted .378 with eleven batted in to go with a .578 slugging mark. 

This is Gustafson's second All-WCC plaudit after being named to the conference's Second Team following the 2015 season. The senior put together a career-high .293 batting average this year with 22 runs scored and 34 batted in. In the circle, the Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. native appeared in seven games, four of which were starts, and struck out 23 batters. For her efforts and leadership this season, Gustafson was also voted MVP by her teammates. 

Moran-Rowen appeared in all but one game for the Tigers this season and established herself as one of the most consistent players in the WCC. The senior posted a career-high .268 batting average to go with a .380 on-base percentage. Her 20 walks were the ninth-most in the conference and ranked third on the Tiger squad. A formidable force in right field all season long, the Stockton native had 40 put outs to go with five assists.

Young led the Tigers in strikeouts with 96 to give her 200 for her career, ranking her 18th overall in program history. Her 2.26 ERA and opposing batting average of .216 were the third lowest in the conference. Her ten complete games, five of which were shutouts, also paced the Orange and Black. The hurler earned WCC Pitcher of the Week honors in week three of the season after allowing just one earned run over 16 innings while striking out 13. 

Owen made an instant impact for Pacific in her first season as she batted .264 this season and led all freshman on the team with four home runs and 16 RBIs. The Manteca, Calif. native ranked second in multi-hit games with ten and put together a six-game hitting streak this year, which is tied for the third longest by a Tiger during the 2017 campaign. The infielder had 60 put outs to go with 56 assists, giving her a .951 fielding percentage which was the fifth-best in the West Coast Conference. 

Reed, Lahners, Gustafson, Moran-Rowen, Young, Owen and the rest of the Orange and Black open up NISC play tonight as they host Cal Poly at 7 PM at Bill Simoni Field.
