STOCKTON, Calif. – On Tuesday afternoon, Pacific Softball Head Coach Sam Duran-Kukuk announced that Shelby Shurtliff is joining the program as the assistant coach, bringing the staff back up to three ahead of the 2027 season.

"Shelby has an amazing pedigree of bringing out the best in student-athletes both on the field and off the field as people. She was an instrumental to our success at Utah Valley and now I'm so excited to show our fans what she can do in Stockton. She's going to be an excellent addition to the Tigers brand," Duran-Kukuk said.

A native of Santaquin, Utah, Shurtliff returns to the D-I level after spending the prior season with Salt Lake City Community College. During her year with the Bruins, the team posted a 36-12 overall record and 27-5 conference record en route to an appearance in the Region 18 Championship Match.

Primarily working with the infielders and batters, she helped SLCC produce five first team all-conference selections and sent five players to division one.

Her D-I experience came at Utah Valley University where she spent two seasons split between a volunteer assistant coach and full-time assistant, where in her first season overlapped with Duran-Kukuk, who was the Associate Head Coach at the time. Both coaches helped contribute to UVU's 25-win season, 15 of which came in WAC play, making it the most UVU wins since 2013 and the best conference winning percentage since 2014.

Shurtliff does come to Stockton with some head coaching experience, having led her alma mater Utah State – Eastern for the 2020-2022 seasons. She had originally started as an assistant with the Eagles for six months before receiving the promotion in June of 2019.

"I am excited to be at Pacific, it is an incredible institution and has a rich softball history. With this coaching staff and the amazing student athletes I believe the future is bright," Shurtliff said.
 
Shurtliff will take the diamond for the first time in the fall when the team competes in their fall schedule.
