Box Score SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Tigers made it six-straight wins on Sunday after taking down the Santa Clara Broncos 4-1, securing the series sweep and making it two-straight sweeps over a West Coast Conference foe. It is the first back-to-back three-game sweep of a conference opponent since 2012 when the Tigers were part of the Big West and defeated UC Riverside before taking down Cal State Fullerton.
Marissa Young got her second win in just as many days, going all seven with six strikeouts and no earned. Cassidy Gustafson went 3-for-3 with two doubles and a triple as Pacific registered 11 hits in the contest. Pacific put a runner on base in every inning and had the leadoff batter reach in four of the seven innings. The win brings Pacific to 24-24 on the year, 7-5 in conference play while the loss drops Santa Clara to 21-33 overall, 4-8 in WCC action.
With one down in the first Hailey Reed singled up the middle and Sydney Lahners reached on an error which moved Reed to second. With two outs Cassidy Gustafson doubled, scoring Reed and giving the Tigers an early 1-0 advantage.
Ralene Estrada led off the fourth with a walk and Haylee Moran-Rowen followed with a walk of her own. Caitlyn Sung and Reed both reached on fielder's choices to replace Estrada and Moran-Rowen on the base paths, which brought up Lahners who reached on an error that plated Sung and made it 2-0.
In the fifth Gustafson ripped a triple down the right field line for her third hit of the game. Two batters later Samantha Owen singled to left, playing Gustafson and widening the Tiger lead to 3-0. Next batter Caitlin Reynolds moved Owen to second on a sacrifice bunt, and Moran-Rowen brought her around on a single to left.
Meanwhile Young continued to keep the Bronco bats at bay as she carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning. The hosts finally got on the board in the fifth on a Fisher single to left that scored France, making it 4-1.
Young retired the final five batters she faced, two by strikeout, to get her ninth victory of the season.
The Tigers conclude the regular season next weekend when Saint Marys' comes to town. The series begins on Saturday at 12 & 2 PM and wraps up on Sunday at noon.
