Box Score RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The comeback fell just short on Sunday as the Tigers capped off tournament play with a 5-4 loss to UC Riverside. Marissa Young started in the circle for Pacific, going three innings allowing four earned and striking out three. Hailey Reed also tossed three innings in relief, striking out a career-high seven while allowing no earned runs. Rachel Sellers went 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles, two batted in and a run scored. The loss drops the Tigers to 17-18 overall while the win brings the Highlanders to 18-10 on the year.
In the second the Tigers loaded the bases as Rachel Sellers singled, Samantha Owen reached on a fielder's choice and Haylee Moran-Rowen walked. However Pacific couldn't get find a way to bring them around to score and take the lead. The Highlanders broke the scoreless tie in the bottom half of the second as a run walked in and Tickemyer doubled to clear the bases and put UC Riverside up 4-0.
With one down in the third, Molly Bourne singled up the middle and Sydney Lahners followed with a single to left. Cassidy Gustafson reached on a fielder's choice in which Lahners was out at second and Bourne advanced to third. Sellers ripped her second hit of the game to left for a double, scoring Bourne and sending Gustafson to third. After a wild pitch which scored Gustafson and moved Sellers to third, Owen singled up the middle to plate Sellers and bring the score to 4-3.
UC Riverside added another run in the fourth to push their lead to 5-3. Hailey Reed continued to roll through the Highlander lineup, striking out the side in the fifth inning. In the seventh, Lahners singled to center with one out and was replaced by pinch runner Faith Apokskis. Following Gustafson's fly out to center, Sellers doubled down the right field line to score Apolskis and make it 5-4. Unfortunately, the comeback fell just short as UC Riverside was able to get out of the inning with the lead.
The Pacific road trip continues as the Tigers head to Fresno State to take on the Bulldogs this Wednesday at 6 PM.
