Box Score 2 STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific softball team moved to 5-6 on the season after falling to Cal State Northridge, 2-0, and rallying past Seattle, 9-7, in Libby Matson Tournament action on Saturday, Feb. 25, at Bill Simoni Field.
The opener remained scoreless through four frames, before Cal State Northridge (5-8) dented the scoreboard with an RBI single from Madison Fleming to give the Matadors a 1-0 lead in the fifth. Taylor Glover added an RBI single in the sixth to double the Matadors' margin.
Freshman Hailey Reed (1-1) allowed two runs, both earned, for the Tigers in six innings of work in the circle. She walked two and struck out two. Junior Megan Walters pitched a scoreless inning of relief, walking one and striking out one. Freshman Caitlyn Sung went 1-for-3 at the plate with the Tigers' lone hit of the game on an infield single in the fourth.
Taylor Troost (2-2) went the distance for the Matadors in the circle, allowing just one run and one walk while striking out six.
In the nightcap, Seattle (3-10) jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Madison Cathcart, a two-run single by Maddy Kristjanson, and a three-run home run by Kayla Gonzales.
Pacific responded with six runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 6-6 after the first inning of play. The Tigers received run-scoring singles from Reed, Sung, Cassidy Gustafson, and Rachel Sellers, and also scored on a Redhawk fielding error and a hit batter with the bases loaded.
Molly Bourne added a run-scoring single in the second to give the Tigers their first lead of the game at 7-6. Both teams scored a single run in the fourth, before Pacific increased its margin to 9-7 in the fifth as Reed scampered home on an infield fly with the bases loaded that was dropped by the Redhawks near first base.
Sophomore Kenya Lindstrom shook off the rough first inning to work through five innings, picking up the win to improve to 1-3 in the circle on the season. Junior Marissa Young pitched two scoreless innings of relief, striking out one, to notch her first save.
Reed went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI, while Sung went 3-for-4 with an RBI to account for seven of the Tigers' 16 hits in the game. Gustafson, Sellers, and Bourne added two hits apiece.
Lindsay Davis (0-1) took the loss for Seattle, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits in 2.1 innings of relief. Cathcart, Kristjanson, and Alyson Matriotti each had two hits for the Redhawks.
Libby Matson Tournament play concludes on Sunday, Feb. 26th, as Seattle meets Northridge at 10 am, followed by a doubleheader between Pacific and Sacramento State at 12:15 pm.
