San Luis Obispo, Calif. - The No. 70 Pacific men's tennis team was nipped by Cal Poly, 4-3, Sunday at Mustang Courts.

Sem Verbeek ran his singles record to 9-1, but the Tigers top doubles duo of Verbeek and Jose Chamba, ranked No. 40, was upset by the Mustangs combo of Ben Donovan and Corey Pang.

Cal Poly took first singles, 6-3 while Garrett Auproux and Tim Tan also took a 6-3 win at second doubles, over Pacific's Daniel Alameh and Alex Giannini.  Bernardo Oliveira and Miguel Diaz versus Karl Enander and Dan Cardiff went unfinished as Poly won the doubles point.

Verbeek was a 6-4, 7-5 winner over Donovan, and Chamba posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over Josh Ortlip at fourth singles. Oliveira outlasted Rafael Lenhard, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 at sixth singles.

But Auproux topped Alameh, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3, at the second position and the Mustangs posted straight set wins at third and fifth singles with Pang downing Diaz, 6-3, 6-3 and Axel Damiens getting past Giannini, 6-4, 6-2.

"Credit is due to Cal Poly for coming out strong and loud in doubles and getting the doubles point fairly quickly," head coach Ryan Redondo said. "I thought we still had the dual match but as a team not everyone put it out there and Cal Poly seized the opportunity.  We have a lot to improve on and will look to respond in practice this week."

Pacific falls to 6-5 this season, while Cal Poly improves to 5-6. The Tigers will be back in action next Sunday at home against Utah State.
