STOCKTON, Calif. – Coming off a 2022 season in which the Pacific women's soccer team only lost three matches, did not lose in non-conference play and ended the season with two straight WCC wins, the Tigers look forward to a competitive and entertaining 2023 slate.
"As we plan and prepare for our Fall 2023 season, we have compiled a quality non-conference schedule," said Co-Head Coach
Danesha Adams. Then to be able to add a fantastic road exhibition match at Stanford University, a program that is challenging for PAC-12 and National Championships year after year, is an incredibly exciting opening match for our group. To then have opponents representing six different conferences will help prepare us for WCC play and an entertaining first six weeks."
Pacific will travel to Stanford for an exhibition match to start the season and to prepare for the impressive schedule that follows.
Pacific will host UC San Diego to start the regular season; the Tritons struggled last season, but with nine freshmen and the 2022 goal leader Natalie Abel returning, the Tritons look to play spoiler early on this season.
The Tigers host Eastern Washington next for the first meeting between the two teams. A five-win team in 2022, the Eagles picked up two conference wins over Weber State and Idaho State.
"We have quality road matches at UC Irvine and New Mexico State, programs that made the 2022 NCAA tournament, and a road match at PAC-12 program Oregon State," said Co-Head Coach
J.J. Wozniak. "Then jumping into West Coast Conference play, everyone battling and competing for the top spot! We are looking forward to the upcoming season in various ways, but we know this schedule we have assembled will push our program, and we cannot wait to get started!"
The Tigers head on the road for the first time in 2023, traveling to UC Irvine, who won two NCAA Tournament games over USC and Brown, before returning home to host UC Santa Barbara. The Tigers and Gauchos have tied in three straight matches dating back to 2017. A
Jenae Packard goal helped the Tigers draw with the Gauchos last season.
Pacific heads on the road next, facing a Pac-12 foe in Oregon State, a team the Tigers drew with last season. Pacific then head to southern New Mexico to face a New Mexico State that won 13 games and reached the NCAA Tournament last season.
Pacific follows up the road trip with two home games and a quick trip to Sacramento State. The Tigers will host Southern Utah and Fresno State. The Tigers battled to a draw with Fresno State last season.
The non-conference season ends with a two-game road trip to Cal Poly and WCC opponent Santa Clara. The Tigers set history last season when the team defeated Santa Clara for the first time in program history in a 2-0 win at Knoles Field. Pacific has not faced Cal Poly since 2017, and the program looks to pick up its first win against the Mustangs since 2010.
Pacific opens the conference schedule against Portland at home; the Pilots picked up 12 wins last season and made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament before falling to Alabama. While the Pilots were unbeaten at home last season, they struggled on the road, which provides the perfect opportunity for an early WCC upset for the Tigers.
The program heads south next, with a two-game road trip to Pepperdine and San Diego. Pepperdine will provide another challenge as the Waves picked up nine wins last season and is a team regularly at the top half of the WCC standings. Pacific shutout San Diego last season in a 3-0 win at Knoles Field and extended the Tiger's unbeaten streak against the Toreros to three games.
Santa Clara comes to town for the second meeting between the two teams before Pacific hosts Gonzaga in the two-game homestand.
Pacific wraps up the regular season with a road trip to Saint Mary's and LMU before coming home to host San Francisco for senior night. The Tigers have tied three straight times against Saint Mary's and have three straight wins against LMU. The Tigers and the Dons tied last season in a 1-1 thriller with nine shots on goal between the two teams.
As always, matches at Knoles Field are free to attend, and you can follow the entire season online or on social media @Pacificwsoccer.
