Box Score 2 SANTA BARBARA, Calif.: The Tigers finished their opening weekend at UCSB, taking on UTSA on Sunday and a talented UCSB squad on Monday.
Against UTSA, the Tigers went 2-1 in doubles and competed in two exciting matches with Peter Alam and Manroop Saini, defeating Torres and Rodriguez 6-4. Ran Amar and Liam Puttergill defeated Groysman and Skelly 7-5 for the Tiger's first doubles season wins.
Neither of the top two courts finished in singles, with Aleska Mardjonovic at 4-6, 4-5 against Ceolin and Alam at 5-7, 7-5 against Gonzalez. Puttergill went down to Rodriguez 2-6, 2-6. Amar lost to Torres 1-6, 2-6. Coby McCaig and Saini both kept their matches close, with McCaig dropping 4-6, 4-6 to Muminovic, and Saini fell 5-7, 2-6.
Despite winning the double's point, the Tigers fell to UTSA 4-1.
On Monday, the Tigers faced a UCSB team that started the year 3-1 and had just defeated UTSA 6-1.
The Tigers were swept 7-0 by the Gauchos in singles and doubles play. Alam won the first set of his singles match 7-6 (5) before dropping the next set 1-6 and a tight third set 0-1 (8-10). Puttergill battled as well, losing his sets 5-7, 1-6.
The Tigers are back in action next Saturday, Feb 19, as they take on UC Irvine at 10:00 a.m.
