Pacific to play a pair of matches in Northridge

STOCKTON, Calif. - The 2021 season is scheduled to officially open for the University of the Pacific Beach Volleyball team on Friday with a pair of matches in a tri-dual hosted by Cal State Northridge. The first dual match for the Tigers will be versus Vanguard, followed by a match against the host Matadors.

Dual Match One
Pacific (0-0) vs. Vanguard (8-5)*
Start time: 1 p.m.
Location: Northridge, Calif.
Venue: CSUN Beach Volleyball Complex

Dual Match Two
Pacific at Cal State Northridge (5-9)*
Start time: 3 p.m.
Location: Northridge, Calif.
Venue: CSUN Beach Volleyball Complex

*Vanguard and Cal State Northridge meet on Friday before facing the Tigers. Therefore, opponent records will change before Friday's matches against Pacific.

THINGS TO KNOW
  • Friday's match against Vanguard will be the season opener for the Tigers. In 2020, Pacific went 0-6 against NCAA Division I opponents before the remainder of the season was canceled due to COVID-19. 
  • Pacific's pair of De Schrijver and Sherman, along with Todd and Tubbs are returning to the sand in 2021 having played as pairs last season. 
  • Expected to make debuts on Friday for the Tigers are Taduran, Sheppard and Kalaj. 
  • Pacific has never met Vanguard in a dual match and is 1-1 all-time against CSUN. The most recent match between the Tigers and Matadors went in favor of CSUN, 4-1 on March 10, 2018. 
SCOUTING THE LIONS
  • Vanguard enters Friday's play at 8-5, coming off a pair of losses on Tuesday against No. 8 Pepperdine and No. 6 Loyola Marymount. 
  • The most recent win for the Lions was on Friday, March 26 against The Master's University, 3-2. The deciding match was a 21-13, 21-14 two-set win by Hally Herder and Mackenzie Mitchell. 
  • Friday's match will be the first meeting between Pacific and Vanguard. 
SCOUTING THE MATADORS
  •  CSUN comes off five-straight losses in the Big West Challenge last week in San Luis Obispo. 
  • The most recent win for the Matadors was on March 22, a 5-0 sweep against Colorado Mesa. 
  • The two most successful pairs this season for CSUN, both at 6-8, include Darbi Honeycutt/Mikeala Maughan and Lauren McMurray/Kailey Klein.
