STOCKTON, CA – Aniela Jensen of the women's soccer program has been chosen to the New Zealand Football national team for their friendly matches against Canada on October 24th and 27th.
Jensen is a true freshman from Palmerston North, New Zealand, who has played in 12 games for the Tigers with nine starts. Jensen has two goals and two assists on the season and has played a vital role in helping the Tigers to their best start since joining the WCC.
With the FIFA Women's World Cup being hosted by New Zealand and Australia in 2023, Jensen will have a chance to qualify for the World Cup roster and represent her home country on the world stage.
"I am feeling very grateful to be called up to my first camp with the Ferns squad." Jensen says, "I am excited to play with and against some very talented players. I am disappointed to be missing a few games with the Tigers, but I will be cheering them on from Canada!"
"We are very happy for Aniela as this is very deserving," said Co-Head Coaches Danesha Adams and J.J. Wozniak. "She has been playing fantastic and adjusted well to our style of play and pace of the game. We are wishing her nothing but the best and know she will do well. This is a big accomplishment for her, as well as this program. She will be missed in our matches but it's an opportunity we couldn't let her pass on. This is something that she will remember forever."
