Pacific Out-Hit In 10-4 Loss To Fresno State

Box Score

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific Tigers saw their three-game winning streak snapped as they fell 10-4 on the road to the Fresno State Bulldogs Tuesday night.  The loss came after Pacific swept Cal Poly this last weekend and puts the Tigers' overall record at 4-3.

"We battled hard but we just made too many mistakes to overcome.  We need to learn from it and be better next game," said Head Coach Mike Neu.

The Tigers used a plethora of pitchers in short bursts, with Kyle Ostrowski earning the start in his first collegiate appearance before being replaced by Cooper Casad.  Five different Tigers would work off the mound for Pacific in the game.

Fresno State took the lead on a homerun by their first batter of the game.  They would add three more runs in the second with a sacrifice bunt and two RBI singles to go up 4-0.

Pacific's offense sprang to life in the fourth when Jimmy Boras and Matt Tarantino reached to start the inning, with Boras walking and Tarantino doubling.  Boras would cross the plate after a passed ball that also moved Tarantino up.

Nick Iwasa would single after Fresno State intentionally walked Schalch, cutting Pacific's deficit to just two runs at 4-2 as Tarantino came home.  That single gave Iwasa his first collegiate RBI.

The Tigers got two strikeouts in a row with the bases loaded in the sixth but couldn't get that third out as Fresno State doubled to score three, making it 7-2.

Pacific had their first back-to-back homers of the year in the eighth when Tarantino and Danny Mayer each blasted bombs.  Tarantino sent a ball over the fence down the leftfield line for his seventh RBI in the last three games.  That was followed by Mayer's bomb to deep center, his fourth homer of the year.

Fresno State responded by putting the first four men of the eighth on base, scoring a run in the process.  Another two runs would score on a single through the left side and a bases-loaded walk to make it 10-4.

STAT NOTES
