Tigers Kick Off Season at Johnny Mathis Invite

Meet Schedule

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific track and field kick off their 2017 season at the Johnny Mathis Invite in San Francisco this Saturday. This will be the team's first group meet of the season as in late January, Emily Wylie participated at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invite where the freshman finished 15th in the 800m with a time of 2:23.87.

At last season's Johnny Mathis Invite, the Tigers set school records in the 3000m steeplechase, the 4x100m relay, the 4x400m relay and the shot put. Jessica Fogel, Mati Long, Ebony Ezeji and Jasmine Jenkins finished the 4x100m relay with a time of 52.64, which beat the previous program record of 52.76.  In the 4x400m relay, Sandra Padilla, Lauren Nakaso, Erica Ramos and Myra Lakdawala crossed the line in 4:24.29, besting the previous team record by nearly six seconds. In shot put, Jenkins set the record with a distance of 9.34m, which she eventually broke later in the season by nearly a meter.

The action gets going at 10:30 AM with Jenkins participating in the long jump as well as discus throw where Alexia Amo will also be competing. At 10:52 AM, Emma Winkler will look to break another record in the 3000m steeplechase in her first collegiate track & field event.

Amo and Jenkins will both be featured the shot put at 11:30 AM, and shortly after Ezeji, Lena Perry, Naomi Nunis and Fogel will compete in the 4x100m relay at 11:40 AM. In the 1500m race at 11:58 PM, distance runners Wylie, Lakdawala and Haley Silva will represent the Orange and Black, and at 12:44 PM, Matti Long will see her first action of the meet in the 400m where she holds the Pacific record.

Members of the field hockey team Justine Van Lathem and Kriekie van Wyk, who are competing in track & field for the first time, join Nunis and Perry in the 100m dash at 1:08 PM. Wylie competes in the 800m race at 1:24 PM, and at 2 PM Jenkins takes on the long jump. Nunis will run the 200m at 2:18 PM and Jessie Niccum will be the first Tiger ever to participate in javelin at 2:30 PM.

Distance standouts Katelyn Breitschwerdt and Madison Cote are running the 5000m at 2:50 PM. Capping off the invitational for Pacific will be Long, Winkler, Padilla and Wylie running the 4x400m relay at 4:31 PM.

Following the Johnny Mathis Invite the Tigers head to Turlock, Calif. for the Kim Duyst Invitational on March 4th.
