Box Score PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Tigers dropped their final game of the Stanford Nike Invitational to the Cardinal 8-1 in the 50th meeting between these two teams. Caitlyn Sung extended her hit streak to four-straight games and Rachel Sellers logged her first RBI of the season. The loss drops the Tigers to 3-5 on the young season while propels the Cardinal to 7-3.
Stanford scored in the bottom of the second to break the scoreless tie. In the top of the third, the Tigers got the run right back as Cassidy Gustafson doubled down the left field line and Rachel Sellers sent her home on a single up the middle to make it 1-1.
The Cardinal regained the lead in the bottom half as Stanford put up three runs on four hits, and then added another trio in the fourth to go up 7-1. In the bottom of the sixth the Cardinal extended their lead 8-1. The Tigers failed to get a hit in the final three innings and threatened in the seventh after Sydney Lahners worked a two-out walk, but she was left stranded.
Kenya Lindstrom, who fell to 0-3 on the year, pitched 3.2 innings with one strikeout. In relief, Megan Walters threw 2.1 innings with one unearned run and just one hit.
The Tigers host their home opener this Wednesday at 3 PM against San Jose State.
