Providence, R.I. - The No. 4 Pacific men's water polo team completed a 5-0 Bruno Classic Sunday with a 12-8 win over No. 13 Brown and a 15-7 victory over No. 18 Bucknell.
Engin Ege Colak and Ikko Saito posted hat tricks against Brown, while Aleksandar Petrovic, Devon Thumwood and Colak tallied three goals each against Bucknell.
Alen Osmanovic made 12 saves in goal versus Bucknell, while Luke Pavillard scored twice. Derek Clappis, Luis Araya, Tim Reeves and Lucas Hastie also scored in the contest.
Osmanovic made 13 saves on Brown, while Pavillard scored two more goals and Petrovic, Clappis, Thumwood and Kale Ai each scored once.
Against No. 18 Bucknell, the Tigers blanked the Bison in the first quarter, storming out to a 7-0 lead. Pavillard, Colak, and Hastie scored early, with Petrovic adding a pair and a Clappis tallying for a 6-0 advantage after the first quarter. Petrovic completed the hat trick early in the second before Bucknell cracked the board with a goal from Nate Hunter.
Araya, Reeves, Pavillard and Thumwood struck before halftime as Pacific led 11-2 at the break. Bucknell tallied four goals in the third, while Colak added his second. And in the fourth, Colak scored for his first career hat trick, and Thumwood added two more for his first hat trick of the year.
In the final against No. 13 Brown, the host Bears came out with intensity and jumped out to a 3-1 lead. But Pacific rallied back with goals from Saito, Thumwood and Clappis to take a 4-3 lead.
Petrovic, Pavillard, Ai and Colak capped a 5-1 run as Pacific took an 8-4 lead into halftime. In the third, Pavillard and Saito added goals for a 10-5 lead, and Saito's third made it 12-5 with 4:49 to go in the fourth. Brown narrowed the gap to 12-7 with 2:24 to play, and picked up a power play goal to settle on the final margin.
The Tigers improve to 5-0 on the season, shooting 45 percent for the weekend while holding opponents to just 27 percent.
Pacific will return to California for the Aggie Roundup in Davis on Sept. 16-18, with the Tigers set to face Cal Baptist, Santa Clara, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, and Redlands.
