Box Score Los Angeles - In the season finale on Friday afternoon at Smith Family Field in Los Angeles, the Pacific Softball team was narrowly edged by Loyola Marymount by a final tally of 2-1. Pacific struck for its sole run as part of a fifth inning rally, as singles from Molly Bourne and Sara Anderson set the table for Sydney Lahners, who singled, plating a run to cut the Lions advantage to 2-1.
Pacific finishes the 2016 campaign at 20-28 (3-12 WCC), while Loyola Marymount finishes at 32-21 (10-5 WCC), after failing to preserve its tenuous postseason chances going into the three-game set.
The Tigers sent Marissa Young (8-10) to the circle while Hannah Bandimere (19-10) got the call for the Lions. Pacific put the first two runners in the top of the first on without the benefit of a hit, as Anderson reached on an error and Habib was hit by a pitch, Bandimere recovered to strike out Lahners and Rachel Sellers while inducing a groundout off the bat of Nicole Zapotoczny. Young countered with a perfect first frame.
The Lions struck first off of Young in the bottom of the second, with Alicia Brown doubling ahead of an Alex Finie home run to left center field for a 2-0 advantage. Pacific had a scoring opportunity in the seventh inning after two were out. Anderson reached on an infield single and Melanie Habib walked, putting two seniors in scoring position in their finals games as members of the Orange and Black. Bandimere induced a pop up from Sydney Lahners to end the contest, sending Loyola Marymount to a series win in the finale.
Young pitched valiantly for the Tigers, notching a complete-game, four-hit effort, walking three while striking out three on 109 pitches, 66 that went for strikes. Bandimere picked up her 19th win with a seven-hit complete game, striking out seven on 100 pitches. Anderson and Lahners each had multi-hit games while Habib reached base twice for Pacific.
The Tigers will now await the announcement of the West Coast Conference Awards and All-Conference team, which is slated to be released on Tuesday May 16th.
