Santa Clara, Calif - The No. 68 Pacific men's tennis team swept Santa Clara, 4-0, Friday to move to 3-0 in West Coast Conference play.
Pacific won three singles matches in straight sets after taking the doubles point, 2-0.
Bernardo Oliveira closed out Jeffrey Liang, 6-1, 6-2, in sixth singles for a 2-0 Pacific lead. At fourth singles, Miguel Diaz dropped Kamram Khan, 6-3, 6-1 before Sem Verbeek clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-4, win over Robert Seby.
Daniel Alemah (6-3, 2-5) and Alex Giannini (2-6, 6-3) were in tight battles that went unfinished at second and fifth singles, while Jose Chamba trailed Connor Garnett (7-6, 0-1) when his third singles match went unfinished.
In doubles action, Alemah & Gianninibeat Khan & Liang 6-1 at second position, while Diaz & Oliveira defeated Andrew Gu & Max Heerinckx, 6-2, at third doubles.
No. 62 Verbeek & Chamba went unfinished against Seby & Garnett at first doubles.
"The guys really stuck to the process today," head coach Ryan Redondo said. "I was impressed with the response from the team after the Wednesday result. It's not easy and Santa Clara is a young, talented team. As happy as I am with the wins and the guys that got the wins, I am equally impressed with a Jose and Daniel. Both were down but had professional responses and that is exactly what we were looking for."
Pacific improves to 11-8 overall on the season. Santa Clara falls to 6-8 overall and 0-1 in WCC play.
The Tigers will be back in action next Friday and Saturday at home against Loyola Marymount (Friday, 1 p.m.) and Pepperdine (Saturday, 1 p.m.) at Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.
