Diaz Leads Tigers At Day One Of UCSB Classic

Santa Barbara, Calif. - Miguel Diaz advanced to the quarterfinals as the Pacific men's tennis team opened day one of the UCSB Classic in Santa Barbara.

Diaz won his Flight A Round of 16 match over Bjorn Hoffman of Cal, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 to advance to the quarterfinals. He will face Morgan Mays of host UCSB.

In Flight B, Ross Watson was edged out by Chase Masciorini of UCSB in three sets, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.  Nathan Hampton fell to Tim Tan of Cal Poly, also in three sets, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. Lance Ngo was topped by Christian Brockstedt of San Francisco, 7-6 (4), 6-3.

In doubles, Watson and Diaz came up just short against Oregon's Simon Stevens and Ty Gentry, 8-6, in Flight A.
