MTEN Preview at SCU/USD 2026

Men’s Tennis Readies for Two Crucial Matches

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – With the West Coast Conference tournament looming, Pacific has two opportunities to improve its standing this week with road matches against Santa Clara on Thursday at 11 a.m. and then San Diego on Saturday at noon.

Thursday's match is a chance for Pacific (7-12, 1-2 WCC) to reverse recent fortunes against the Broncos (15-2, 2-0 WCC), who have taken the last five meetings. The last time the Tigers prevailed over Santa Clara was in 2018, coincidentally on SCU's home courts.

Coming into the match, the doubles portion has been Pacific's strength going undefeated against conference foes. Sophomores Nico Rating and Jonty Giesen are 3-0 on doubles court one versus WCC opponents and as such are the two-time reigning WCC Doubles Pair of the Week. They became the first pair of Tigers to win consecutive doubles player of the week honors since Akram El Sallaly and Tadiwa Chinamo in 2019.

Against San Diego (14-4, 2-0 WCC), Pacific has found similar footing as it has against SCU, going 0-5 on the road versus the Toreros going back to 2010.

When the team upset USD in 2024, redshirt senior Terence Das was a crucial part of that by garnering a straight set win on singles court four.

Das has been a part of the other pair dominating conference play doubles for the Tigers, pairing up with sophomore Niv Zuckerman last weekend for two wins on court three.

For the team to start racking up singles wins again, Giesen and Das both figures to factor heavily into that as the two are the team leaders with eight and five wins respectively in singles.

Glancing at the standings, Santa Clara enters the week in a four-way tie for first place with San Diego, Pepperdine and LMU.
