Napa, Calif. - The Pacific men's tennis team downed Hawai'i, 5-1, Sunday to wrap the Silverado Invitational in their first weekend of fall action. The Tigers completed a weekend sweep of doubles matches and took three of the four singles events versus the Warriors.
Daniel Alameh and Kumara Pardha Adavelly rolled over Fabian Woehrl and Felix Albert, 8-2, while Miguel Diaz and Sem Verbeek topped Marcel Chan and Igor Kolaric, 8-5.
In singles action, Diaz prevailed over Wehneit, 6-3, 6-1. Verbeek downed Albert, 6-2, 6-4 in the the second flight. Alameh was pushed in the first set against Kolaric, 7-5, but then posted a decisive 6-1 set two win to take the match. Chan defeated Adavelly, 6-2, 6-3.
The Tigers finished unbeaten as a team in the Silverado Invitational, splitting with Oklahoma State and Tulsa before Sunday's victory. Pacific placed second in the tournament, which also featured SMU and San Francisco, behind only Oklahoma State.
"This was a very valuable weekend for us," head coach and director of tennis Ryan Redondo said. " Nothing better then tough competition to get the team learning and the inner fires burning. I am really proud of the guys. We won this tourney last year and this year we came in second this year with a deep field of teams and a much higher level of competition. We went undefeated in doubles in all three matches and got better with each singles match."
The Tigers will be back in action starting Friday, at the Battle In the Bay Classic in San Francisco.
