Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific Track and Field team will continue its season at the 2015 San Francisco State Distance Carnival in San Francisco on Friday and Saturday. The two day event features teams from throughout the western region and will get underway on Friday before continuing into Saturday, with longer distance events slated for the first day of competiton while the second day focuses on shorter hauls. Field events will accompany both days of action.
Head Coach Josh Jones said of the SF State hosted Invitational, "This meet has turned into a very competitive one and we are looking forward to racing. With good competition and tight races our team is going to have to run aggressive and smart. We should see some more PR's and records broken this weekend."
The action on Friday will get started with the 1500m, as senior Sarah Bailey (Vernon, B.C., Canada) and junior Lauren Nakaso (San Ramon, Calif.) will compete, with an eye on taking down the school-record mark set earlier this season at the Kim Duyst Invitational by Mia Knipper, who crossed in a time of 4:47.63.
Bailey and Nakaso will also run the 800m, with both runners looking to cut time from performances at the Johnny Mathis Invitational on the very same track. Bailey set a school record with a time of 2:21.46 in the 800m less than two two weeks ago.
In the 5000m race, juniors Lindsay Wourms (Camas, Wash.) and Becky Grabow (Carson City, Nev.) will look to eclipse Grabow's record mark of 17:55.64 set in 2014. In Friday's field events, sophomore Jasmine Jenkins (San Ramon, Calif.) will compete in the long jump while freshman Megan Murphy (Santa Maria, Calif.) will be an entrant in the high jump contest.
On Saturday, juniors Jessica Guerra (Stockton, Calif.) and senior Karla Segura (Stockton, Calif.) will run the mile distance while juniors Mia Knipper (Morada, Calif.) and Grace McManus (Apple Valley, Calif.) will join sophomore Myra Lakdawala (Karachi, Pakistan) in the two-mile race.
In shorter distances, sophomores Matti Long (Sandy, Utah) and Sandra Padilla (San Jose, Calif.) will compete in the 400m while sophomore Ebony Ezeji (Stockton, Calif.) will run the 100m along with freshman Jessica Fogel (Northridge, Calif.), Jenkins, freshman Taylor Ayers (Castaic, Calif.) and junior Ashley Keeline (Chula Vista, Calif.)
Wrapping up the day, Long and Ezeji will reprise their roles as they compete in the 200m distance.
