Stockton, Calif. - On a day in which the Tigers' sand volleyball team officially dedicated its home facility to the Raney family, Pacific made sure to keep its record at the courts unblemished with a 4-1 win over Cal Poly on Sunday, April 6. The win for the Tigers moved their record to 6-1 on the season while the Mustangs fell to 1-4 in 2014.
Picking up where they left off the day prior, the Tigers posted their third-consecutive 4-1 win of the weekend as Pacific won the top four spots on the day. For Pacific, the first point of the day was scored at the No. 4 pairings as Katy Tagart and Megan Birch ran away with a sweep over the Mustangs' Anna Gorman and Stacia Williams. Starting quickly, the Tigers' eldest duo grabbed Pacific's most lopsided win of the afternoon with a 21-8 victory in the opening set of the day behind an array of heavy shots and tough serves.
Trying to keep pace with Tagart and Birch, Pacific's No. 3 team of Mia Feiner and Gillian Howard opened their afternoon match with a near mirror of the Tigers' No. 4 team, posting a 21-9 victory. With the Mustangs attempting to force Feiner into the offense by serving the smaller Tiger partner, Feiner made Cal Poly pay for the decision with a short tips and deep kills. With the victory at No. 3, Feiner and Howard remained as the lone perfect team for the Tigers on the season having won all seven matches played on the season.
With the match in control, the Tigers secured the overall match victory on the court over from Feiner and Howard and the new team of Alicja Wilk and Kimmy Whitson won in straight sets to give Pacific its third point of the day. Jumping out to early leads in both of their sets, the Tigers' No. 2 team never looked back en route to their match victory.
Having secured the match, Pacific looked to finish off the Mustangs at the No. 1 pairing as the two top teams found themselves in the toughest battle of the day. Behind late runs in each of the the two sets played, Lexi Elman and Kat Schulz persevered to secure the sweep of the Mustangs' top team and stay perfect on the weekend for Pacific.
The Tigers are back on the courts on Sunday, April 13 as they host Sacramento State and Stanford at the Raney Courts for a pair of dual matches beginning at 9:00 am
