Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific men's tennis team opened up the 2013-14 home dual match season with a 6-1 win against UC Davis on Saturday, Jan. 25. The Tigers evened their record at 1-1, while UC Davis dropped to 0-2.
Pacific won the doubles point, when the teams of sophomore Sem Verbeek and freshman Miguel Diaz and juniors Erik Cederwall and Alex Hamilton picked up 8-4 victories. Verbeek, Diaz, sophomore Daniel Alameh, junior Denis Stolyarov and sophomore Marlon Brand all picked up singles victories for the Tigers.
"Today was a great test for the team," said Pacific Men's Tennis Head Coach Ryan Redondo. " After playing a tough Stanford team last week, we prepared well for a very good UC Davis team. The Tigers came out determined and got the doubles point with a great start by Hamilton and Cederwall. Moving into singles we were disciplined and played aggressive. We are still learning and have a lot to work on before Hawaii next week."
The Tigers are next in action with a home match against Hawai'i on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 2:00 p.m. on the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts.
