Stockton, Calif. - The No. 6 Pacific men's water polo team defeated No. 14 Concordia 14-13 and Redlands 16-8 in a doubleheader Sunday, Sept. 25 at Chris Kjeldsen Pool.

The Tigers improve to 6-3 with the wins while Concordia and Redlands drop to 12-3 and 4-11, respectively.

"It's always great to get two victories against two good teams like Concordia and Redlands," Pacific head coach James Graham said.

Sophomore Balazs Erdelyi scored the game-winning goal for the Tigers late in the second overtime period as Pacific defeat the visiting Concordia Eagles 14-13 in a hard-fought match.

Neither team could gain separation from one another early as the match was tied at 3-3 at the end of the first quarter and 6-6 heading into intermission.

Concordia took a 7-6 lead early in the third quarter but back-to-back goals from seniors Daniel Lungu and Tom Koning gave the Tigers an 8-7 lead going into the final period.

Koning notched his third goal of the match at the 6:30 mark in the fourth quarter, putting Pacific up 9-7. The Eagles would battle back to tie the match at 9-9 with 3:46 remaining before the Orange and Black went back on top by two scores courtesy of junior Goran Tomasevic and Erdelyi, respectively.

The visitors would not be denied, however, as they knotted the match at 11-11 to force overtime. The game-tying goal came with just three seconds left in regulation on a 6-on-5 power play.

Pacific again jumped out to a two-goal lead behind scores from Tomasevic and Lungu early in the first overtime period. Concordia scored with 44 seconds left to cut the deficit to one at 13-12 before netting again early in the second overtime period to tie the game at 13-13.

The game-winning goal came at the 1:12 mark thanks to Erdelyi's shot that hit the back of the cage from the right flat. The Eagles would have two more chances to tie the match but were unsuccessful on both attempts.

The Orange and Black were led by four goals from Tomasevic, including two in the first quarter. Erdelyi notched his second consecutive hat trick while Koning and Lungu also finished three times.

Sophomore Alex Malkis manned the cage for the Tigers, recording 11 saves.

Concordia was paced by two goals from four different Eagles. Goalkeeper Ryan Freerks tallied eight saves.

A balanced scoring attack led the Tigers to a 16-8 win over Redlands in their second match of the day.

Pacific raced out to a four-goal lead behind scores from Lungu, Erdelyi, senior Joey Doyle, and junior Jason Wensley. A late goal from Redlands saw the Tigers take a 4-1 lead into the second quarter.

The second stanza was much the same as the first as the Orange and Black saw a pair of goals from both Erdelyi and Doyle, along with a score from senior Lance Morrison, lift them to a 9-3 advantage heading into intermission.

The two sqauds combined for nine goals in the third period as Pacific found itself with a 14-7 lead with one quarter left to play. The Bulldogs netted early in the period to reduce the deficit to six but back-to-back goals from Szabo put the game away.

A total of eight Tigers scored during the match. Doyle, Erdelyi, and Szabo all recorded three goals while Morrison and Wensley netted twice.

Senior Joey Frantz played a complete game for Pacific, registering seven saves.

Redlands was paced by Clint Freeman and Blake vanHartesvelt, both of whom scored twice. Goalkeepers Jessie Gunther and Tyler Abbott split time in the cage. Each recorded four saves.
