James Graham completed his 16th season as head coach of the men's water polo program in 2024 and is in his 11th season as the head coach of the women in 2025. In July 2023, Graham was promoted to Director of Water Polo for the women's team after being the head coach for 11 years. He is the only individual in school history to coach both teams simultaneously. Compiling a combined record of 429-264 during his 16-year tenure with the Orange and Black, Graham has solidified his role as one of the most decorated and successful coaches in Pacific history.
For the men, Graham built the Tigers into one of the nation's elite programs. Adopting a mentality to "Dream Big" and compete with the best, the Tigers have finished in the Top Four of the ACWPA Coaches Poll four times in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2019. On the women’s side, he has taken the women to finish three times in the Top 10, including their best ranking in school history; sixth in the nation.
Most recently, Graham coached the 2024 men to the West Coast Conference Regular Season Championship. It was Pacific's first WCC title in any sport since the school rejoined the league in 2013-14. Graham went on to earn West Coast Conference Coach of the Year honors after guiding the Tigers to an unbeaten 6-0 conference record.

Graham has worked for USA Water Polo in a variety of capacities since 2004.
- Team USA Jr. Men's Assistant Coach at the World Men's U20 Championships, the team won bronze, the first ever medal at those championships

In 2012, he founded Water Polo Analytics Group and began working with Pacific Assistant Professor of Mathematics, John Mayberry. Since then, Graham and Mayberry have co-authored three different academic journals and were featured in a chapter of
The Economics of Aquatic Sports.

Graham began his playing career at Santa Rosa Junior College, where he played for two years. His stellar play garnered an Honorable Mention All-America and All-Northern California honors during the 1999 season. Graham spent his final two years at the University of Redlands, suiting up for the Bulldogs from 2001-02. Graham was a two-time Academic All-American and earned All-SCIAC honors as a senior.
Prior to joining Pacific, Graham would go back to coach at his alma mater, Santa Rosa Junior College. Graham built the Bear Cubs into a state power, carrying a career record of 86-50-1, which included a school-best third place finish at the California State Championships and Big 8 Conference title in 2007. For his efforts, Graham was named the 2007 Big 8 Conference Coach of the Year. It was his second consecutive Coach of the Year honor as he won the same award in 2006 after taking the Bear Cubs to the Northern California Championship. He was honored as the Northern California Coach of the year in 2006.
