STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific women's soccer team has announced two more additions to their roster for the upcoming 2011 season as midfielder Nicola Berry and goalkeeper Jacqueline Kane join the Tigers for the fall.
Nicola Berry, is a 5'8 midfielder from Los Angeles, CA. She was a two year captain and four year varsity player and helped lead her team to not just four straight West Valley League titles, but the CIF Los Angeles City champions in 2008, 2010, and 2011 as well. Under head coach Eric Choi she also won the coaches award in 2008 as a freshman, and was a varsity scholar athlete all four years in high school.
"Nikki adds a strong, physical presence on the defensive end for us, either in the midfield or at center back," head coach Keith Coleman said. "She is an extremely hard-working, athletic and aggressive player. We are excited to be adding her."
Jacqueline Kane is a 5-9 goalkeeper from Alamo, Calif. who currently plays with the Lamorinda United 92 which is coached by Mohamed Mohamed. With Lamorinda United 92, Kane helped the club to the 2010 Juventus Championship, the 2010 Pleasanton Rage Finals, and the 2010 Davis College Showcase Semifinals. Kane also trained with the Haitian National women's soccer team.
"Jacqueline has all the tools to make an impact on our team," Coleman said. "With hard work, as she develops as a player, we expect big things from her."
Kane is the daughter of Jason and Jami Kane, both of whom attended the University of the Pacific.
The duo will join 16 returning players and four previously announced incoming freshmen for next season, as Pacific losses seven student-athletes to graduation. The Tigers finished the 2010 season at 8-8-3 overall, while facing a schedule that included seven games against ranked opponents and eight games against teams which earned NCAA Tournament bids. Pacific's 5-3-0 Big West record earned them a tie for third place in the conference and the program's second conference tournament berth in three years. The Tigers fell to No. 11 UC Irvine, 2-1, in the semifinal.
