Box Score

Stockton, Calif. - Freshman Lydia Jackson (El Cajon, Calif.) notched her first goal as a Tiger with 5:38 remaining in double overtime, giving the Pacific women's soccer team a 2-1 win over UC Riverside on Sunday, Oct. 8.

With the win the Tigers moved to 9-3-1 on the season and 1-2 in Big West Conference play picking up their first three points on the season, while UC Riverside fell to 7-6 overall and 0-3 in conference.

104:22 minutes into a physical see-saw battle the Tigers put to rest their first conference win of the season with an aerial attack off the head of one of the most unlikely heroes. Making the most of her time on the field, Jackson broke free across the middle, sailing into the air, and slotting home her first goal of the season past the outstretched arms of Tawny Poggio, UC Riverside's netminder. The play was setup by senior Carmen Padilla (San Jose, Calif.) who carried the ball down the right sideline, side-by-side with a Highlander defender, before sending a cross into Jackson. The assist was Padilla's team-leading third assist of the season.

After a scoreless first half, the game picked up immediately after the break as the Highlanders struck first, just 1:08 into the second half. Amber Plumlee found herself in the right place at the right time collecting a rebounded save in front of the goal and placing a shot past, junior Jaime Souza (Gig Harbor, Wash.) who could not recover in time. The assist was credited to Tessa Lennala who initial shot was blocked by Souza creating the rebound opportunity.

Wasting no time, Pacific knotted the score at 1-1 just :42 second later when junior Mandi Van Dorn (Danville, Calif.) netted her conference leading sixth goal of the season. A long pass by senior Kelsey Nagel (Lynnwood, Wash.) dropped between Van Dorn and Poggio causing a race to the ball that Van Dorn won before chipping a shot over the top of Poggio and into the back of the net. The assist was Nagel's second of the season.

Overall on the day, the Tigers outshot the Highlanders 23-to-11 while forcing Poggio to make nine saves while Souza produced five saves for the Tigers.

Pacific will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 13 as the Tigers travel to UC Irvine to take on the Anteaters at 7 p.m.
