Tigers Drop 2-0 Decision to Tritons

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Completing its two-match Southern California road trip, the Pacific women's soccer program fell 2-0 to UC San Diego on Sunday afternoon from Triton Soccer Stadium.

The Tigers (0-4) found some opportunities to strike early in each half, but the Tritons (3-1-1) scored in each half and held on for the result.

Sophomore Makayla Marin-Valencia was the main threat for the Tigers' offense, notching a team-high three shot attempts, including one on target.

Sophomore Lis Van Herwijnen made her second start of the year in goal, tallying a season-high seven saves against the Triton attack which recorded 28 shot attempts at the Pacific keeper.

Following a balanced approach by both sides in the early going, the Tritons opened the scoring in the 31st minute by Alexis Nguyen to take a 1-0 lead. UCSD would tack on another goal in the 70th minute on a penalty kick conversion by Lana Gilligan.

Junior Ashlyn DiGioia and redshirt senior Faylinn Berkowitz represented the lone two Tiger defenders to play the full length of the contest. The Tritons edged the Tigers in the corner kicks department with a 5-2 margin.

Pacific returns home for its next contest, welcoming Weber State to Knoles Field for a 6 p.m. kick-off on Thursday. The Tigers own a 1-0-1 all-time record over the Wildcats, including a 2-1 home victory on Sept. 8, 2022.
