DAVIS, Calif. – The Pacific women's soccer program turned on the jets in the second half, out-shooting UC Davis in the final 45 minutes, but just fell shy of an equalizer in a 1-0 decision on Sunday night from Aggie Soccer Field.
The Tigers (0-6) managed to get more offensive touches and looks in a busy second half that saw the Aggies (2-3-1) ultimately hang on for the result when the last whistle blew.
As a key cog of the Pacific offense throughout the evening, sophomore
Janelli Villagran registered a team-high four shot attempts, one of which came on target during a second-half flurry of chances. Senior
Kaya Rosa represented the other Tiger to record a shot on frame in the match.
In goal, freshman
Ava Wells turned aside three Aggie shots across 90 minutes for a team-best 20 saves on the year in four starts. Wells wasn't tested much; however, she came up large with a couple stops to keep the Tigers within striking distance.
The Aggies scored the game's only marker in the 37th minute on a right-footed strike by Ashley Brewer. UCD out-chanced Pacific, 9-3, in the opening frame, but the script flipped in the second half when the Tigers had six shot attempts compared to the home team's three. Corner kicks were 4-0 in favor of Pacific.
The Tigers will return home for their next two contest this upcoming week, beginning with Cal Poly at 6 p.m. from Knoles Field. The Tigers seek their first victory over the Mustangs since the 2010 campaign.
