STOCKTON, Calif. – Freshman
Ava Wells turned in a career-best performance on Thursday night, recording a season-high ten saves across the intense battle, but the Pacific women's soccer program wound up dropping a 1-0 decisionl to Weber State at Knoles Field.
Wells kept the Tigers (0-5) within striking distance throughout the contest, notching the double-digit save total on 11 shots on target by the Wildcats (3-2-1).
Weber State broke through in the 15th minute when KJ Skinner found the back of the net on a header to give her team a 1-0 advantage. Wells responded with a series of saves to prevent the visitors from extending their lead to close the first half.
The last time a Pacific keeper collected ten or more saves in a contest came when
Lis Van Herwijnen on Nov. 1, 2025, in a 1-0 defeat at Saint Mary's. The most recent occurrence at home prior to tonight was Brenna Crump during the 2022 season in a 1-1 draw with BYU.
The Tigers tightened defensively after the break and limited the Wildcats to one additional goal-scoring opportunity from the run of play, while Wells continued to protect the net.
Pacific created more opportunities offensively in the second half, finishing with four shots after halftime. Freshman
Julie Valdez led Pacific with three shots, while
Kaya Rosa and
Shay Clark also registered attempts during an early second half push. Pacific put three shots on target overall, although Weber State goalkeeper Lauren Butorac stopped all three to preserve the clean sheet.
Up next, Pacific makes a short drive up the I-5 for a crosstown clash at UC Davis on Sunday at 7 p.m. from Aggie Soccer Field. The Tigers seek their first victory over the Aggies since the 2022 season when they won, 1-0, in Davis.
