Seattle, Wash. - In the final game of the Husky/Nike Invitational, the Pacific women's soccer team fell for the first time in 2005, dropping a close contest to the No. 4 ranked Portland Pilots, 2-0, on Sunday, September 4. With the loss the Tigers dropped to 2-1-1 on the season while the Pilots improved to 4-0-0.
In a game that ranks as one of the toughest match-ups in program history for the Tigers, it took a late penalty kick to down Pacific as they looked for the upset over the No. 4 team in the nation. Both goals on the day for the Pilots were scored by Christine Sinclair as she netted her eighth and ninth goals of the season. Sinclair's score in the 39th minute was assisted by Natalie Budge.
Facing one of the top offenses in the country, sophomore 'keeper Jaime Souza (Gig Harbor, Wash.) posted five saves on the day; keeping the Tigers in the game until the closing seconds. Souza finished the tournament with nine saves while facing two top-20 teams in two days.
The Tigers will be back at home in Stagg Stadium next Friday, September 9, as they play host to the Bulldogs of Fresno State. The game is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
